WORLD ROSARY DAY 2026 (ENNA- ITALY)

Friends,

the most relevant celebration of the World Rosary Day this year in Italy, and possibly in the world, will be held in Enna, Sicily.

This is a small mountain town (950m. over sea level) with a population of 24 thousand, and a long history, dating back over three thousand years.

Enna is famous as the “City of Confraternities” (Urbs Confraternitatum), since thereare sixteen, which directly or indirectly involve half of the inhabitants: taking care of their own churches, transmitting the faith, educting the young, and preparing the processions of the Holy Week and Marian feasts. The oldest confraternity wasfounded in 1261 and the youngest in 2011. Seven of them are exclusively Marian, and others have to do with Mary, such as the one of St. Anne and the one of St. Joseph.

Tomorrow, the Confraternities of Enna have organized a major celebration of the World Rosary Day, to take place in the Duomo, which is dedicated to Maria Santissima della Visitazione, who is Patroness of the the town; in the church therewill be a relic of John Paul II, great apostle of the Rosary, and his own personal beeds.

The five decades of the Rosary will be televised live by Play 2000 (the streaming platform of TV 2000, network of Italy’s Episcopal Conference) at the presence of His Eminence Card. Angelo De Donatis, head of the “Penitenzieria Apostolica” of the Holy See, with live connections with the International Shrines of Loreto, Pompei, Lourdes, Guadalupe (filmed), Fatima, Medjugorje; plus the shrine of Divino Amore in Rome and Madonna delle Lacrime in Siracusa.
One decade will be recited by national and political authorities; another decade willbe recited by television and movie celebrities; one more decade will be in live connection with hospitals, hospices, orphanages and even a detention center; and one decade by the Confraternities.
The readings before each decade will be done by students of five different continents, as Enna hosts an International University with 15,000 students, in their respectivelanguages: Italian, French, Spanish, English and Chinese.

Our heartfelt congratulations to Enna and its Confraternities, for staging a memorableand monumental World Rosary Day celebration on the liturgical day of Feast, whichfollows the moving one by Pope Leo in the Vatican Gardens on October 1st, thatbegan a most intense Marian week and month.
